Wed Aug 22 Sprinkled a little to day but not enough to do any good or hurt. We hauled and stacked 4 loads of wheat and stacked it and have the fifth on the wagon and there is one more out in the field yet. I got the water started to irrigate the the stubble just before noon and have got a pretty good start at it for the time it has been running.

Thurs Aug 23 Very clear and very nice. Lew helped to finish stacking of the wheat this forenoon and went to town this afternoon to see doctor Miller. He sais [says] that Lew is threatened with typhoyd [typhoid] fever. Kib worked at the wheat this forenoon and cleaned out a ditch this afternoon. I helped about the wheat this forenoon and mowed on the N W corner piece this afternoon but I attended to the irrigating and it took quite a bit of my time.

Fri Aug 24 Clear and still all day and quite warm too. Lew is quite out of fix and Kib will go and see and tell the dr how he is so he can come out if he thinks best. I mowed what I could finished the piece in the N W corner then tinkered some ground a couple of sickles and settled to the water and then cut the two little pieces of oats and begun on the 10 acre piece of alfalfa. Kib raked up what I cut yesterday.

Sat Aug 25 Cloudy a good deal and threatened to rain a heap but the rain was pretty scarce here. Lew is still holding the bed down but Dr Miller was out to day and he says that Lew will not have to keep the bed a great while. Kib shocked the hay over on the N W corner piece and raked up and shocked the two little pieces of oats. Frank came home to day. He has got out of a job so I guess that he will help us a few days. I finished irrigating the piece over on the hill this forenoon and Kib sent the water on to the lake. I cut the south end of the 10 acre piece and irrigated the strawberries to day. Elmer Scofield came here this morning. He reports our friends as well as usual down east.

Sun Aug 26 Cloudy all day. Lew seems to be improving pretty well. Kib went to Reas's with Mrs Bush and her children and Elmer and Meda got home pretty late. Frank and Mary went a rabbit hunting got five. I staid [stayed] at home and visited with Jonny Golding.

Mon Aug 27 A very nice day. Kib raked and bunched the alfalfa and helped to haul some. Frank and I hauled the oats hay and the other oats and him and Kib hauled one load of alfalfa.

Tues Aug 28 Pretty good day for hay making. Frank and Kib hauled 3 loads of hay this forenoon and at noon Nora fell off from the load of slabs down by the barn and broke her arm and Kib went after Dr Miller who came out and set the break all right and she seems to be quite comfortable now. I mowed all day over at C V Howards cut over lots of ground and got quite a fair crop of hay on most of it.

Wed Aug 30 Clear and warm. Frank chored around. Kib raked most of the time over on the Howard place. I mowed this forenoon and started at it this afternoon but broke the casting numbered K199 which holds the big end of the sickle down and had to go to town and get another piece so I guess that I can go ahead in the morning.

Thurs Aug 31 A poor day to dry hay but a good one to haul it so we hauled 6 good loads and it rained hard all around us but not enough here to do much good or harm to us. Frank and Kib and I hauled. Lew and Elmer Scofield went to Mr Cushions and from there to Charleys and got the calf that Charleys folks had up there. [along right side bottom to top:] 6 loads.
