Sun Jan 21 Cloudy and windy in the morning. Frank went a prospecting over the county but mainly to see Dr Millers place back of the Blick place. Dont seem to want much of it. Lew and Mary went up to Johns. Mary is going to stay a few days. The rest of us staid [stayed] at home and read mostly.

Mon Jan 22 Cloudy and rather cool but not windy. The boys filled the feed pens and cut wood the ballance [balance] of the time and made the split wood pile grow lots.

Tues Jan 23 Cold and a little snow fell to day [today] about 1½ inches. Frank went to town and Lew split wood and I did nothing.

Wed Jan 24 Clear but cold the thermometer marked about 4 to 8 below zero. The boys split wood this forenoon and Lew went to town this afternoon and Frank and I split wood.

Thurs Jan 25 Clear and getting a little warmer. The boys cut and split wood and made a big pile lots bigger. I helped them in the forenoon but this afternoon I didnt do much.

Fri Jan 26 Mostly clear and rather cold and windy. The boys filled the feed pens and cut wood the ballance [balance]. Only Lew went off with Lady and the buggy going to Johns and will fetch Mary home tomorrow. I worked at the wood this afternoon.

Sat Jan 27 Quite nice all day. Frank and I worked at the wood pile this forenoon and this afternoon. Frank went to town this afternoon. Lew and Mary has just come home. I worked at the wood this afternoon too. Lews old Dara is dead dont know what was the matter with her.

Sun Jan 28 Clear but quite windy. We all kept Sunday to day and wrote lots of letters and read a good deal too.

Mon Jan 29 Clear still and very nice and warm. Lew went to take 3 cows from Charleys up to Reas's as Reas will keep them for him and take pasture next summer. Frank went to town this forenoon and worked at the woodpile this afternoon. I worked at the wood all day.

Tues Jan 30 Clear but cold and some of the time quite windy. Mr Silas Buffoms folks were here and made us a very pleasant visit. The boys hauled hay and filled the racks and worked at the wood the rest of the time besides visiting. I worked at the wood tolerable steady.

Wed Jan 31 Clear but a cold wind. Our business to day was mostly preparing wood.

Thurs Feb 1st Clear and cold. We worked at the wood business to day and I think I will be through that job in another day. John Riddle came here this morning and we talked cattle awhile and finally I sold him 8 steers 7 cows and old Joe for 360 dollars[$360.00] and he gave me a check for the 160 dollars[$160.00] and is to pay the other 200 dollars [$200.00] in about 10 days.

Fri Feb 2 Pretty nice this forenoon but it got cold and commenced to storm a little towards night and is now rather disagreeable. Lew cut some wood. Frank and I went to town to try to a little business and that was just what we done too.

Sat Feb 3 Clear and pretty cool with about an inch of fresh snow this morning which thawed some to day. We didnt do anything to day only the boys went to town and I kept comfortable in the house. O yes I filed and set Charleys big saw.

Sun Feb 4 Cold in the morning the thermometers marking 4 and 10 above zero but it got to be nice after a little and continued nice all day. Lew and Mary went up to Dixons and to Harry Dixons at night. Franks folks went to Rook Bushes and Mothers and I staid [stayed] at home.

Mon Feb 5 Clear still and very nice after it got warmed up but 6 and 8 above zero early. Lew and I went up to the ranch found the stock all alive but some of the cattle are rather slim. Found quite a bit of snow up there. Bud said it was about 9 inches when it first fell. Frank started to seek his fortune drove the mares and led Beauty. Wants to sell Beauty and bring a load of coal with the mares.

Tues Feb 6 Clear and still and quite warm through the middle of the day. Lew went off on a speculation this morning. I have been very much under the weather to day from a hard cold I got yesterday.

Wed Feb 7 Clear and nice again. Lew went up to the hills to day and brought down his mares. Frank has not got home yet and I staid [stayed] in most of the time and done lots of coughing and sneezing.

Thurs Feb 8 Quite a stormy day snowed about an inch and blew it around very lively. Lew went up to Spring Canion [Canyon] to get his stores and some other things there. Drove Dom and one of this mares. I dont feel much like work yet so I staid [stayed] by the stove most of the time.

Fri Feb 9 Clear and still but pretty cold. Frank has not got back yet and Lew went over to where he expects to work with a load of stuff this morning and has not got back yet. I have been sitting by the fire all day and didnt feel much like doing even that.

Sat Feb 10 It snowed a little last night and some again to day [today] and is snowing now and pretty cold too. Frank has not got home yet. Lew worked at cabinet making some to day but didnt go away anywhere.

Sun Feb 11 Clear cold and still all day. This morning it was 10 below zero by the small instrument and 6 by the other. Frank has not got home yet. Lew and Mary went to the Amos place and to town but the rest of us sort of kept Sunday. Only Franks Mary has been a good deal under the weather occasioned by one of her billious spells.

Mon Feb 12 Cold and clear and still. Lew went to town this morning to get some things for housekeeping. Frank got home this afternoon brought 1 ton of coal. He sold Beauty for 65 dollars [$65.00] cash. I think Frank done as well as we could expect in such times but we all know that in ordinary times he would have easily brough [brought] twice that.
