Title: Letter from Augustus Koopman to May Wright Sewall.
Description: (From St. John's Wood, London) Explains moving, etc. - did not get May Wright Sewall's letter. I sorted what pictures were not sold and destroyed some - I never considered your portrait as doing you justice - that awful heat was fatal to both the artist and sitter. So Lelas - your one time portrait is no more. I have not seen Mrs. Stead as yet. Augustus Koopman (1869-1914), American artist. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he spent much of his time in France. He taught painting in Paris from 1896-1899 and was elected an associé of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1912. Koopman won many awards for his paintings. He lived in London from 1902-1906, where he specialized in portraits. He painted a portrait of May Wright Sewall, which he later destroyed.
