Description: (From Indianapolis). I am going to my sisters on Tuesday to remain for 10 days - be back the 22nd. I shall finish my English book today. How shocking and terrible is the assassination of the Empress of Austria. She and Miss Hosmer were warm personal friends. (Empress Elisabeth of Austria was stabbed to death in Geneva by an Italian anarchist on Sept. 10, 1898.) Mary H. Krout (1851-1927), American author, journalist and feminist. Born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, she began writing for local newspapers after teaching school for more than ten years. In 1888 she moved to Chicago where she got a job writing for the Chicago Inter-Ocean and the Chicago Tribune. She travelled the world writing articles and books about her journeys. She also lectured around the world on women's suffrage. She eventually returned to Crawfordsville where she died in 1927.
