Description: Mr. Gresham acknowledges Sewall's letter requesting that the government of Germany name two women to attend a World's Congress of Representative Women coincident with the Wortld's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. He states that the U.S. minister in Berlin has been directed to acquaint the minister of foreign affairs with the matter. Walter Quintin Gresham was a Indiana-born attorney and judge who worked in the cabinets of Presidents Chester Arthur and Grover Cleveland. He was appointed Secretary of State in 1893 and served until his death in 1895.
