Sabbath August 8th Rather warm. Attended our church all day and S. School in the afternoon. Father preached. His text in the morning was, "To run that you may [illegible]" and in the afternoon, "Our days on the earth are as a shadow". Both of them interested me much. --The latter was suggested by the recent death of young Mr Potter who formerly attended our church and a brief sketch of his life and death was introduced. The family and friends were present. ---Joseph Wilde walked home by my side from both services -- Samueal accompanied Carrie in the afternoon. He seemed very pleasant -- says he is coming to West Mills too -- he may come and welcome if he likes but I would not if I were him -- Retired soon after tea with a headache.

Monday. August 9th Very warm. Was very busy all day. Mrs Lee and Diana were here washing and ironing for Carrie and I till night. Kate, Harriet and Douglas came home to tea and to bid us good bye. Hattie and her beloved returned to B. About nine o'clock leaving Kate with us. She expects to go to Sharon some time this week to stay till our return. --Father came hom to-night feeling as he said, very sad. He stopped on his way to see the Methodist minister. Mr. Creagh who is dying. He has been ill only two weeks with the dysentery. He is an excellent man, a fine preacher, and dearly beloved by his people who were crowding his house in their sorrow perhaps forgetful of his repose. Father spoke a few workds to him - he was scarely able to reply but his faith is strong, his trust unfaltering.
