Friday August 6th Pleasant. To-day I spent what was left from my household [illegible] [illegible] in sewing for Carrie in return for the time she gave up to me on Wednesday. Mary Willet and Mrs Young called. In housekeeping we progressed well -- and I were up before six and had an early breakfast, Carrie and I cleared it off and then sat down to our sewing. Wrote in my journal in the eveing.

Saturday. Pleasant. Up early. Our breakfast was pronounced very good -- I find I progress faster in the culinary art from being left alone to depend on my own endeavors but I fear I shall never make a very skillful cook as I have but little taste for that line of business. Did a good deal of sweeping in the morning, and sewed in the afternoon also went out shopping. Father & Mather arrived home to tea, Mother not very well. They have a very pleasant time - found the dear Hudson all well and happy to see them. Kate wrote a note to Carrie -- she says she can hardly wait for Tuesday to come she wants to see us so much. -- Father had a talk with Henry and found him in a very bad state of mind. Carrie and I spent the evening in sewing and both retired very much fatigued to dream sweetly of the pleasures that we hope will soon more than repay our toil. How bright they look in anticipation! May the reality favor them so.
