How to make a decocktion of Gyiacum

Take a small filled [pilled/peeled?] or shaven guiacum 16 ounces of cardus benedictus

watter let thy^m steep a night close stopt set thy^e pot to seeth easely
till a 4th part is consumed thy^e wood may be kept to use again

To cleans thy^e blood

Take thy^e Juce of fumotory & whey together or thy^e whey of goates milke

To strengthen thy^e liver & hart

thy^e Confection of liteficanus Almansoris Take on quarter of an
ounce w^th endive watter allso half a drame of treacle

Walnutt water thus distilled is good against the
Plague or any infectious diseases by sickness

Take 2 pound of Walnutts 2 handfulls of Rue 2 pound of figges stamp thy^m
in a morter then steepe them in as much sacke as will cover them for an
hour. still it altogether in a cold still put some fine sugar candye in the
glasse it drops into drinke as you see cause 3 spoonefulls or soe.

The Walnutt water called the water of life
for the vertues therof

Take walnutts in the beginninge of June beat thy^m in a morter then still thy^m in a stille
of leade and keepe them by it selfe then make a second water gather your walnutts
about midsummer or 2 or 3 days after use them as you did the other keepe thy^e water
by it selfe alsoe then gather walnutts a forthnight after midsummer and use them
as you did the former; keepe the water by it selfe alsoe then take a quart of each
and put all together in a glasse still & keepe it close for your use.

The vertues of the simple walnutt water

It will cure all manner of diseases and palsies beinge drunke w^th wine fastinge
it is good for the eyes if you put one drop therin; it is to helpe the conception of
a woman if shee drinke therof moderatly one spoonefull in wine once a daye
it will make ones face faire if it be washt therwith it is good for infirmitye
within the body and draweth out all corruption if it be drunk with wine moderatelye
or with water it will kill wormes in the body drunke with or by it selfe who soe
drinketh it shall live soe longe as nature may well continue lastly if you have
any wine that is turned put a litle violl full therof into it and stope it close, w^thin
4 dayes it will recover it againe.

{An excellent Cordiall water }

Steep halfe a pound of hartshorne in 2 quarts of white wine put to it 2 good
handfulls of red sage an ounce of cinnamon let them all steepe 3 houres thyⁿ still
them in a cold still put into the glasse it runs into a litle white sugar candy.
when you thinke it halfe runne out set other glasses under keepe the first of
it selfe for that will be pretty stronge, this quantity must not be put into
the still all at once for it weakens it.

For a surfet

Take hyira pica one drame to a quart of thy^e best whit anis seed watter
ade to it 2^d of prepared cochenell brused put it in thy^e botell of water
& shak it twice a day for 9 dayes together & let it stand in thy^e sun or in
thy^e chimney wher it may have a constant heat it helps surfets
good against Infection take 3 spoonfulls fasting, it will give a stoll or
tow
