181. An Excelent Pultice for a sore breast
Take a black sheepes head with the wooll on it & boyle it in spring watter about a galon & half til it be all to mash the meat from the bone on a gentle fire then take half a pound of rice & boyle to a pultice in the broth then take oyle of cammamile & oyle of Roses of each an ounce & 2 peny worth of saferon & the yolk of an egg beaten among them mix all this together & lay it on the [illegible] place affected luke warm spreading it on a [?] cloth if the breast be broken in several holes then take goat dung sifted & (?) into powder & take a tent of lint & dip it in the powder & to apply it this also with [Desoulu?] a cancor; & it said never to fail to cuer a breast.

Another Pultice to break a sore breast
Take 2 handfulls of mercury 2 handfulls of [?] prick them clean & shread them & (mal?) take also a good handfull of chickenweed or 2 handfulls, a good handsome [?] of [?] grease & put them into milk & boyle them very well then thicken it with bread crumbs or wheat bran like a pultice then take it off the fire & put a half an ounce of (fenygrick?) small beaten every time you apply it to the breast make the quantity you lay on as hot as the patient can abide it & mix it with the yolk of an egg & will break the breast then to heal it take (red sag?) & ground (?) of each a handfull shread very smal then take goats grease & beat them very well together untill they become a pretty smoth salve & so work little of it in your hand untill it be warm then apply it to the sore & it will heal it you must shift it night & morning the abovesaid pultice must be laid above the salve to keep the breast warm for a milk sore in the breast

Take 2 ounces of bees wax melt it then put to it 4 ounces of (dear?) sweet or gresh butter with out salt if cannot get the (dear?) sweet 2 spoonfulls of hony 6 spoonfulls of whit wine vinagar let it boyle up between every thing you put in then bake it off & put in 2 grated (nutmegs?) 2 spoonfulls of (?) peper stir it till it is cold Let the woman keep her breast clean (drawn?) from the milk lay the pultice all over the breast only cuting a hole in the cloth for the (?) pultice it at the first once a day if the breast is not brock but if so take if off every night & wipe it & lay it on again warm & if this is a humor it will disperse it, or if it breaks it will help it to break & heat it again
