A Receipt of a rare Convoulsion water Mr G[…] at Sleford
Take of y^e flowers of y^e Tily or Linden tree 3 hanfulls of flowers of Lillyes of ye valea five handfulls, of Piony seeds half an ounce let these be Infused in 5 pints of y^e best whit wine for y^e Space of 8 dayes then distill y^m w^th a gentill fire afterwards take of y^e flowers of Rosmary half an handfull flowers of Lavender one handfull y^e leaves of Rue one handfull Betony half a handfull Stachas flowers of Arabia one pugill Single piony roots 2 drames & a half ditany of [Crest] 2 drames & a halfe prepared Squills a drame & a half Pelotory of Spain half a dram, Misleto of y^e oak two drames Castorum a dram Cubabs & Cardemonyes each a scruple mace half a dram cloves tow scruples nutmeges a scruple Let all thes being rightly prepar'd be Infused in y^e above said distillation for y^e Space of 6 dayes longer afterwards destill y^m as aforesaid
It may doe well to give y^e Child half a Spoonfull of black chery watter or simple piony water at a tyme evening & morning for 3 dayes together both about y^e full & Chang of y^e moon for some mounths together the same quantityes allso of thes may be given at any other tyme & as often as need shall requir upon any appearance or fear of Convoulsion fitts y^e waters may be lightly sweetened w^th fin sugar or surrup of Piony w^ch is better
One or 2 mornings together in a mounth y^t is tow say about a week before y^e full of y^e moon it may doe well to purge y^e Child w^th a spoonfull or tow of surrup of damask rosses or s^ch a quantity therof as may move 2 or 3 stolles a day It may be given ether a lone or in a small quantity of bere
Also upon any appearance or fear of such fites it may doe well to make use of oyle of Amber applying it to y^e nap of y^e neck temples of y^e head & nostrills 2 or 3 dropes to each part
Probably an Isue in y^e Left arme might tend much to y^e prevention prevention of such fitts

Take of y^e moderat Spirit of wine & good Canary sacke of each a pint Anyseeds & Caraway of each one ounce nutmeges 2 ounces, of ginger 40 graines let them be brused, stoned raisons 3 drames 2 dates then put it into your [urall] & sack w^th them Take of castor y^e best w^th skines 2 ounces & a half bruse it well & put it into another [urall] w^th y^e Spirit of wine stope it close set y^m in y^e Sun & shake them morning & night giveing y^m vent for 10 dayes together after put them into a urall & doe as before for 3 dayes more then strain it & keep y^e liquor for your use ade 2 ounces of Liquorish give of this a llitle spoonfull to a child in y^e mounth when you thinke y^e fit is comeing & to one elder ade to y^e quantity
