without sitrring until 238° degrees. Remove
from heat, drop in butter and cool with-
out stirring until 110°. Add vanilla.
Beat until thick and creamy. Add water
and fruits and pour quickly into a greased
pan. Makes 1¾ lb.

Chocolate Crumb Cookies


1c shortening 1 t salt
¾ c granulated sugar 1 t baking soda
¾ c dark brown sugar 1 t hot water
2 eggs beaten 1 t vanilla
2½ c sifted all purpse flour 1 c chopped nuts
14-16 oz semi sweet choc.

Cream shortening, add sugar grad-
ually and cream well. Add beaten eggs and
beat as well. Sift flour and salt togther and
add to the first mixture alternately with
the soda which has been dissolved
in hot water Add the vanilla. Fold
in nuts and choc. which has been broken
in pieces the size of a pea. Drop
