SIR: In reply to letter from your office of 12 July, I have to state that the lens and lantern for Cape Foulweather Light House arrived in San Francisco on the 19 May.

SIR: I have to submit the following Report of Operations for the month of August 1872: Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Ogn. Brick work completed in Tower 6 ft above lower floor, & in Oil House 4 ft above floor. Received & cleaned Metal Work ere??? “Shubrick”. Placed stone steps & sills, & Iron Work as far as work (Brick) has progressed. Shipped 1 Cargo Bricks Cement & Lime from San Francisco. Keepers' Dwelling enclosed, floors laid, 2 coats paint outside, 1 coat plaster on 1st floor, & lathed on 2nd floor. Probably Operations in September. Receive cargo, & ship balance of materials, including, lantern, from San Francisco. Continue work with full force of men on Lt. Ho. & Dwelling. General Work. Engaged on Estimates for Repairs & Improvements.

SIR: In reply to letter from your office dated Sept 3, 1872, asking information relating to Cape Foulweather Lt Station, Ogn, I have to state that the Keeper’s Dwelling has been completed; the Oil House walls have been completed; the Tower Walls (Sept 30”) are built 22 feet above the lower floor; all materials (including Lantern, Lens, & c) are on hand or now discharging, except 23 lbs??? Bricks & 25 Bbls Lime, already ordered from San Francisco; a full force of Mechanics, Machinist, & Laborers are employed; and with average weather & no further delay from inability to secure Steam transportation (sailing vessel carrying materials to Foulweather again partially wrecked) the light can be exhibited on or before January 1st 1873.

SIR:

I have the honor to make the following Report of Operations for the month of January 1873. Cape Foulweather Lt. Station, Ogn. Received & hauled from Newport the lantern except missing boxes. Completed lantern floor (except floor lights) and iron work in vestibule & watch room. Continued grading & cleaning of grounds.

Probable Operations in February. Completed brick work under lantern floor. Cement wash watch room. Complete taking down of scaffolding. Build fence around tower.

Cape Hancock Lt Station, W.T. Completed Oil House except painting & plumbing.

Probable Operations in February. Paint as weather will permit.
