To Council for [?]

To the Board of Public Works,

We citizens and tax payers of Seattle do petition your Honorable Body that the commendable work just completed in our enterprising suburban Town Fremont, may be extended to some extent at least, to the people of Edgewater, that we also may have a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. Now gentlemen the facts are that when we leave the car at the south end of Boman Avenue under the glare of those lamps we at once go as it were into outer darkness and group our way along at the risk of life + limb to our several places of abode. Gentlemen, at nightfall that whole position of our beautiful city lying directly north of Lake Union is shrouded in darkness. Therefore we would most respectfully suggest that an arc lamp be put at the intersection of Hanson and Oliver Streets (about four [?] east of Downs Hotel). Another one at the corner of Oliver and Elmer, and also one at the intersection of Elmer and George St.

Trusting that this modest request will be met with your approval, and that the work may be done without unnecessary delay, we remain most respectfully yours &c

Seattle, September 19th, 1893.

To the Hon. Board of Public Works, of the City of Seattle, Wash.

Gentlemen:

Your petitioners, residents and property owners at Fremont and Edgewater, hereby petition your Honorable Body to order the ten arc lights that are to be erected in Fremont and Edgewater to be placed on the top of poles. The section to be lighted from these lamps has but few buildings and all of them are low; if the lights can be placed high a much larger territory would be illuminated, and many streets would receive the benefit from such lights that would not if they were suspended across the intersection of the streets.

To the Honorable Board of Public Works and City Council

Gentlemen:

Referring to a former petition of the Seattle Seminary and others for a roadway and walk from Fremont to said seminary, your petitioners now respectfully represent that inasmuch as they understand that their original petition was refused because of the great expense; to wit $400.00 required for construction of roadway. They do now offer to do all other work on said roadway except to an amount of $100.00, that is to say, as to attach to the item of $300 on condition your honorable body grant $100.00 for roadway and $75.00 for foot path. We believe this offer to be all that can be asked. The necessity for this improvement is urgent and will be a public benefit as clearly shown in our original petition. And your petitioners will ever pray. The Seattle Seminary By H.H. Pease, Treas
