1846 May 9th Weather warm & fine about this time, Finished fencing about 12 Bushing wheat & oats -

10th Showers this day & turned cool in evening

11th began to Replant & Plow corn this day Replanted all the side of the the Branch next to Tobacco Houses & part of the side & Plowed all drill corn nearly

12 Hilling & Coltering in second

13 done collering & laying off second yrsground gone to mill this morning lent Wm Neale 2 mugs of Coffee this morning my wife Which she has to clean her teeth began to Cross Coltering on Branch

14 Finished hilling second years ground Plowing corn - 15th Drawing Plants

15 & Planting Yobacco this day in new ground Raining & we are Planting Tobacco

16 Finished Planting new ground Tobacco Thining corn this morning Phil gone to Shop & mill

17 Meeting day at S. S. M H. a good day

18 Cloudy Plowing corn & Replanting corn & hilling on Branch 19 My waggon start to Lynchg 20th myself Mrs Clements & John starts this morning sold our Tobacco for Little or nothing 21st hilling on Branch

1848 Oct 6 Digging Irish Potatoes first planting Turn out moderate Began to sew wheat in fallow Land fresh field firing Tobacco in prize Barn & mountain Barn weather moderate, clear, to day. -

7. A Fine morning, cutting second groundyrs Tobacco, & Henry sewing wheat in fresh ground

8. clear moderate Lucy A. Clements Baptized today by Bro Plunket

9th clear & cool, firing Tobacco sewing wheat & Cutting down corn & Halling it up, cut Buck Wheat

12 Halling up Tobacco & Corn, smart frost weather cool Sewing wheat in fresh ground & Choping bushes etc began to sew wheat big prize Barn,

13th Sewing wheat. Halling wood etc Choping Bushes in fresh ground cloudy and like for Rain Cool

14. Sewing wheat in second yrs Tobacco Land, firing Tobacco at mountain field & Cutting down corn stalks there & Piling Rocks, Mr Hagood got Leather & thread to make myself & wife a pair shoes weather clear & moderate - 5¼ lbs warp filing & bag carried to Mrs Tuckers

15 went to Mrs Smiths clear & warm

16 Sewing wheat in fresh Tobacco Land Henry gone to Doct Whites mill 1½ Bbls

1849 Jany 1st striping Tobacco in middle barn good striping day

2nd Striping in second & finished 9 O clock in night what we had down

3rd cloudy & like for Rain or snow Halling wood & burning little Plant Bed in new ground Brot Home berkshire yesterday & he is gonefound him in Pasture & hes not gone this morning

4th Shelled corn & carried 5 Bus corn to mill & 1 stack for Palingin we have 3 Large Logs at mill for Palings. Cutting in new ground big growth in little new ground — Sewed little Plant Bed in new ground this day weather fair & clear Halling up a stack Oats 2 days ago

5th Very cold clear & windy Cutting in new ground all hands

6 Halled out 1 stack wheat straw yesterday cutting in new ground big growth,went to Mr. Lewis to get him on Tuesday next to act as referee in Jas East Rent matter about Tobacco Lots & also E Fitzgerald very cold & windy this day

7 weather moderated cloudy & like for Rainsnowor

8 Still cloudy & like for snow, my wife & Lucy Ann clement went to Riceville yesterday 7 to get Lucy Anns tooth Extracted Cutting big growth in new ground Henry sick in house. cold

9th Ground covered with snow not very 5 or six snows to this time not deep cleared off in evening.

1851 Dec. Memorandum of business Done for Mrs Lucy Ann Clements & her as Guardian for Nannie & Lucy C Clements also ——— During the past Summer I went to Court House I think about 3 times about Mr James Clements account – also Recd $3 for collecting money of Ezekiel Dews & JW on Bond from Grasty -

24th & 25th Dec. I went to see Mr E. Franklin about Mary & her children, also to Richd Smiths to collect for Rent got none also to see Geo. A P Dove to Rent him the Place where he lives for 1852 also to Collect for 1851 but did not get any money = 1852 March 12th I commenced this morning before day to adg[lost in margin] Lucy Anns Grdn acct but could do it till she came in evening then fixed it, for settlement by Comr say engaged best part of the day & part of the night

22nd went to Court in part for Lucy Ann & others

Augt Court 1852 Saw Mr Franklin about [Keeping] Mary & children for next year — made no bargain y[et]

Augt 31st went to see about childrens Land on River got back late Bed time

1853 Augt 25 Went to Rent Land & Collect Rent all day & in the night

Feby1854 I have been 4 or 5 times to vaughans to attend to suit against Richd Smith for Mrs Clements. Rented out the Place where Dove lives to Thos Walker etc went to see Mr Brooks about Eliza

Dec 14 went to Mrs Clements millers [Snows?] Dove & Franklins for Lucy-Ann - Lucy Ann Clement Give me this day $12 - for attending to her business etc.

1851 Augt 21st Still Cloudy & like for Rain Rained all day yesterday hot put out Mrs McCullocks Tobacco House — made Baskets yesterday & spining — To day Riving slabs & getting Timber worming & succoring new ground Tobacco, —& going to go our Tobacco worming & succoring

22nd Started to the association at Kentuck Meeting House friday saturday monday & friday Rained nearly all the time scarcely finished the business after association, & came home about 12 or 1 Oclock Monday night

26th Still Raining we have been spining making Baskets etc etc yesterday & to day Jobing working on Road about spring overseer cut his foot last friday been in the house nearly ever since, etc —fixing to Raise Barn Give up to Colo Kirby at Laurel Grove at a Bond on John J Bently & his Bro siety for $10 - due several years ago, to have collected by Mr IngRam - Constable

27th Sent 2 Hands to Mrs McCullocks to Raise Tobacco House, clear & cool, our folks spining & Pealing fruit etc etc Mr owen made Jerrys & Sallies shoes —

28. worming &succoring & Toping Tobacco, fixing Logs to Raise House tomorrow I went to CH for Lucy Ann & my wife went to Mrs Hunts

29 Overseer has gone to mill to get Corn of Mr Miller I sent 3 Bushels wheat gotto be ground like corn Mr JD Hunt 2½ of our own wheat for flour, & 1 Barrel Corn for myself,- we finished the Barn yesterday & Covered it in & fa[?] up the Door Toping succorig & working out fresh ground clear & Cool -- this morning etc —
