My love also to Cousin Mary F. -- If Sam does as well in New York, as he did in Boston, how long will it be before he will be able to return with a fortune? I do hope however that he will do well, which he no doubt can do, if he wishes to, without coming to California --

You say Mrs Blany intends to leave Pepperell for the winter at least. Have they sold their place? I am afraid that you and Hattie will miss them very much, as you seem to esteem their friendship very highly. For that reason, if no other, I hope they will still consider P. their home --

I am pleased to hear that Mrs. B. Tucker [Betsey Tucker] and Lizzie are well, not only on their own account, but partly on account of Sam, for if he knows they are well and comfortably situated he will feel more contented while he remains here, and consequently can do better. He will be pleased with their miniatures, and I hope he will get them safely.

My regards to "Grammama Wright and Mrs Kendall, Tell them I am well. If Thos G. Lawrence [Thomas G. Lawrence] is at Michigan Bluffs he is not a very great distance from here! Still I have never seen or heard from direct since he first arrived in the country. I have not heard from Sam since I last wrote you, but presume he is well
