Dear Mother,

In my last letter I wrote you that I had just recieved [received] your kind letter dated May 1st and 3d, but as the return mail for the Atlantic States was to close that day, I had no time to answer it then, so shall take the present opportunity to do so.

It was very gratifying to me to hear that you were all enjoying good health, &c which blessing I hope you will never be deprived of --

I suppose Harriet enjoyed her visit at Groton very much and that she and Sarah Colburn had a nice time.

My health remains good and I am getting along tolerably well in every respect

My business at the bookstand since I last wrote you has been much better than I anticipated the profits having averaged for the past three weeks about $10-- per day above rent and license. Then Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] and I have bought a one half interest in another stand of the same kind on another street from our old one, which I expect will pay us something

So far I have found Noyes a fine fellow, and the best business man that I have ever come
