Bill vs. Amos H. Powers. (2017)

Voted, – that a bill of the Corporation against Mr. Amos. H. Powers for work done upon his Lot dated , and amounting to $68.97 be referred to the Treasurer to make such settlement of the same as he may think proper in confirmation with the Superintendent, and with Mr. Winsor the former Superintendent, with whom the contract for the work was made by Mr. John Livemore _

Petition of Messrs Douglass & Dennis (2224) & (2225)

A petition was received from the Messrs Robert Douglass and William W. Dennis in reference to an alleged injury to their Lots, (Nos 2224 & 2225,) caused last year by grading adjoining Lots, and requesting that their Lots may be graded so as to conform to adjoining Lots, &c. Whereupon it was

Voted, – that the above petition be referred to the Committee on Grounds.

Bond given by the late Joseph Carew

The Secretary called the attention of the Board to the Bond given by Mr. Joseph Carew to the Corporation, under date of , by virtue of which he was allowed to do work upon Lots at request of proprietors without first obtaining the customary permits from the Corporation, – with a view of ascertaining what action if any might be expedient on the part of the Trustees, in view of the recent decease of Mr. Carew. After discussion it was

Secretary to notify his business successors.

Voted, – that the Secretary be instructed to inform the parties, if any, who may be carrying on business as the Successors of the late Mr. Carew, that the privilege accorded to Mr. Carew upon his bond, with surety, of doing work in the Cemetery without obtaining permits was personal to himself and would not be construed as applicable to his Successors.

Appropriation for purchase of trees & shrubs requested

A communication from the Superintendent under date of , asking for "an appropriation of $500. – for the purchase of trees and shrubs this fall, with a view to their sale to proprietors next spring"; also a communication from the same source under date of , asking for an appropriation of from $300.– to $500.– "to be used in decorating the ornamental grounds of the Cemetery;" – were laid before the Board; and, upon motion of Mr. J. Voted, – that a sum not exceding $800.– be placed at the disposal of the Committee on Grounds to be used in the purchase of plants, etc., in accordance with the request of the Superintendent.

Nathl Mitchell (Lot 1605) his request to be allowed to use wooden steps

A communication from Nathaniel Mitchell, proprietor of Lot No 1605, dated , asking permission to place wooden steps at the entrance of his Lot, said letter being enclosed in one from the Superintendent under date of , was laid before the Board; and it was
