Sept 24th. Sent home from [struck through: Nov]Aug 13th till Nov 5th

Nov. 5th. Arrived at Garden reach. Ferris waiting. got to government place to dinner at 7 o'clock. Sailors of the Nile exhibiting Guy Fawkes.

Nov. 6th. Went down to the "Candia" in the morning. [struck through: drove] Carried in a palanquin most of the day. looked for Doveton College taken to Medical & Hindoo Colleges.

Nov. 7th. Went down to Garden Reach in a garry. got Dr. Barrys boxes into an open cart. met Egan Walter McDakin. Went to Fort. William with Egan then to Wilsons [written between lines: Called on Smith saw McLaren & Bruce ] Saunders going up country in the eveng.

Nov 8th. At the Scotch Church in the fore noon with Y. Barry. Sacrament at the church. Went to the fort in the vening. saw McDakin wrote note to Dr. Barry about E.I. Corps.

Nov. 9th. Received note from Barry. Offered Govt. appoint. prefer staying with Barry. to it. Met Smith McLaren Bruce at the post office went home with

& Miss H on deck. had a Chat with old Fielder. Passes the "Belgravia" off Saugor in tow of Fire Queen. Saw Wade on the forecastle. Old Wharton came out of the wheel house waved not near enough to speak. Passed the mail steamer "Simla" & a good many ships on their way down wards. Anchored below Culpee Went aft about 8 had a chat with Capt. Mrs. E & Miss H.

Thursday Feby. 10th. 1859

Up about 6 Fine cool mg. Got under weigh at daylight strong ebb tide. day very hot. arrived in Calcutta about 5 ocl. went on shore took a packee called at Ferris's no letters. took dinner then met Dr. Votch of Edinr. Wm. White taking Barry's place Mrs. Ferris Capt. & Mrs. McDonald

bd. the "Octavia" one day reception not very Cordial by the Capt. asked after Taylor. settled down at Home. two or three troop Ships have arrived this week one to day 19th carried away jib & foretopmast very hot day Can scarcely sleep at night for Mosquitoes in spite of Curtains Dibbs & I went out in the Buggy last night called at R S T Hos. saw Ferris & then called on McGregor. promised to call on him sfter church to morrow & call on Mrs. Knott

Sunday Feby. 20th. 1859

Came into dock yesterday & here we are today boxed up between two walls. every thing has been taken out. Guns stores &ce went to St. Pauls church with Mr. Dibbs. went on bd. Called at McGs. & Mrs. Og. lodging

buggy taking sherry. went & took tea with Ferris in the Evg. played a game of Whist with Mrs. Philips Mrs. Richman & Philips

Sunday March 13th. 1859

Got up at six took a short walk out by Wilsons Hotel. Called at Scott Thomsons with a [?] & ginger. came back [Struck through:went] [written above: intended] to go to Free Church in the forenoon. told packee bearer took me to Free School English Church remained there. In the evg. went to the Old Church Walked home with Mrs. Philips and the Miss Ogilvies Charley Philips Called at Scott Thomsons Afterwards for letter home. had a soda & ginger with Philips

Monday March 14th. 1859

Wade called up about eight

on board

at Wilsons got some bac[c]y 3 rupees pound left a [struck through: late] 100 rupee note at Scott Thomsons with a note to Ferris to deduct what I had bought & 15 rupees got us this mg. from it & send a bill on to Kedgeree. Got a Gharrie at the house & went off on board the "Ivanhoe". C Philip with me breaking down ev[e]ry 5 minutes Philips left at Baboo Ghaut Got on board about nine get my Cabin & had traps put in met the other passengers at breakfast. Payne Ms. Payne Mrs. Richardson Mrs. Willis & 4 children Mr. Peterson pilot Mr. Jones. Leadsman Lane got under weigh about 10 slow work tides not suiting[?] very strong floods
