* Pertussis. The indication of cure is to remove the irritating cause, I.E., Phlegm, and to diminish the morbid irritability of the Stomach, the former by Emetics, and the latter by astringents. This formula as an emetic is excellent. Rx Tart Emetic — gr iij [3 grains] Aq. Menthae ℥iij [3 ounces] Balsamic Syrup Ʒij [2 drams]

M take one ounce every quarter of an hour until it vomits (See fol 196)
