Dear Sir
To lower the posts to show 6 inches less (or more if you desire) and to take out the step and recut the front and make it thinner so as to conform as nearly as possible to the grade of sod will cost $20 not including the number. To cut the number in raised letters as new would cost $6, but it could be cut for $3 or less if cut in sunk letters as on the lot opposite which you looked at.
This includes the replacing of the sod around the posts & steps which I will keep in order for a year provided you give us the care of the lot for 1882 at the usual rates.
I think there is no question that this is the best way to fix the lot. A change of grade would be bad beside which it would cost more.
Yrs truly J.W. Lovering.
