Porter has left his aged parents & a numerous train of relatives to lament his untimely death; Williamson a widowed mother & her large family of children overwhelmed with grief. We enclose you one of Major Porters advertisements containing a description of the two who have escaped. -

Dear Sir,

By this days mail It is probable you will receive the resignation of Richard D Wheeler late principal Surveyor of Campbell County, and having for many years done the greater part of the Surveying that has been done in the County I would accept of protem ap =pointment to that office should sould [sic] such an arrang= ment meet with your Approbation —

With sentiments of respect I am Sir your obedient Servant

Sir Inclosed [sic] you will receive my resignation as principal Surveyor of Campbell County and with your permission would recommend Joseph Hart as a person Well qualified to discharge the duties encumbered upon that office.
