Clarksville T. Jany 13th 1818.

Sir.

The Honbl Bennet Searcy the Judge of the fifth circuit resident at this place died on the 11th Inst - on the third monday in next month is the time at which the court is to be held at this place & is the commencement of our spring circuit.

It therefore becomes necessary for, your excellency, to commission a successor immediately. We the undersigned being a large majority of the lawyers resident in this circuit, the fifth, would beg leave to recommend Parry W Humphreys Esq. as a person fit to succeed Judge Searcy, & proper to be commissioned by your excellency as Judge of the fifth Judi =cial circuit, pro tempore.

With great respect we are your excellency's Hbl.

Port Royal Jany 14. 1818

Sir. The death of Benet Searcy Eqr late Judge has been anounced to this neigh =borhood as having Expired in Nashville a few days Back and as every Individual in society has his Weight in ^a new Nominations in his Neighberhoods or at least they think so. Permit me Sir therefore to give you the Name of James B Reynolds late Member of Congress as his successor the time has been so short, that mr Reynolds has not been consulted tho those I have conversed with from Clarksville Point him out as the fittesest

P W Humphreys presents his particular Respect to Governor Houston & Recommends to him Mr. Robert Rivers for the Apointment of Solicitor to fill the vacancy produced by the Resignation of Hugh W Dunlap Mr Rivers is the partner of Jos R McMeans Resides at Reynolds burg which I understood to be within the solicitorial District & Is a young gentle man by P W H consi dered not only qualifyed but [?] [?] to prosecute [Scandvell?] with full effect - March 15 1828

Clarksville March 2nd 1828

Dear Sir

Your kind letter was handed to me on yesterday, for the honour you do me accept my kind thanks. I will accept of the appointment tendered me by you, and hope that I may ^be enabled to discharge of duties agreably to the wishes of my Friends in the number of whom sir I am proud to [?] yourself. I will be in attendance by the 2nd munday in the present month. We have nothing new from [is?] all well
