We the Inhabitants of Rogersville after taking a Review of the organization of the Militia of this County, and more particularly the light Horse thereof, find them not equipt as might be expected from Independent people - We from a feeling for our Country and motives pure, have resolved to form ourselves into a Volunteer Troop (should it meet your approbation) to be fully equiped and Subjected to your Shortest orders - your opinion will be expected as soon as you can make it convenient by

I do hereby certify that Alex Nelson hath performed the duties which the Law requires of him as Sheriff of Hawkins County in making a return of the Votes given in Hawkins County for Electors to Elect a Prest and Vice President of the United States, and that he is intitled [sic] ^to the sum ten Dolls Eighty five cents for traveling 60 miles and three days attenden [sic] two days in taking the Votes in his own County, and one day in Comparing the Votes in the place where the Laws derect Given Under hand this fifth day of Novr 1804
