Sevierville

Sevier county - agust the 6th 1796.

I herewith send you, a coppy of the poles of the Election for this county. the Reason for my so Doing is that I Expect a Dispute to take place, Between Mr Mcquaky and Thomas Buckingham. When the Election Was first begun, as Buckingham was a candidate and also the Sherriff it was, agreed on by the candidates that the Election should be held and the Direction of the Inspectors, or Judges who Were Joseph Vance Robert Calvert and James Mcmahan, the Election, was Carried on Two Days, Acording to the list of Assembly, for the Militia of this State. the[y] Began to count the Votes about four Oclock. Which the[y] kept the Election Stall Open also, to Recive Votes, when the Poles comes to be counted the Votes for second Majr when Buckingham, was one a head, the sherriff Made an Attempt to Close the poles, contrary to the consent of the Judges. Who continued to take in Votes untill the sun went Down, when Mr Mcquakys pole, was one a Head. when the sherriff, Refused to close the pole, and, one of the Judges, then closed the poles [say?] Mr Vance, under said Agreement of the candidates Aforesaid, the Election was Opened By the sherriff and held under the Above Mentioned Agreement. This Iis a Statement of the Business which is true. To the Best of My Knowledge I am Dr Sir Your Most Obedient Servt

Sam Wear

To his Excelency John Seviere

N. B. You will also Recive a Return of said Election, Signed by the Judges
