A man whose description suits Trainum swapped a horse a few days after the murder near nashville to a Mr Hargrove and gave 105 Dollars to book, and left there next day had yellow hair, tall, knock kneed, cropped on left ear, post rider say that horse was the one on which Maj. Brashear was riding

Knoxville 26th August 1803
Sir,
Yours of 12th Inst. has been received. It is truly to be lamented that those Villains continue their depredations on the road. I believe The President is disposed to do every thing in his power to put a stop to the commission of such outrages and to bring the offenders to condign punishment. I wrote to the secretary at War in June last on this subject and every measure ^then suggested has been adopted
I enclose you A copy of this letter Ireceived in reply from the Secretary at War is herewith enclosed
I have heard lately that the notorious Mason has been killed and that some of Mr Nash's property was found in his possession. Please inform me whether you think the report may be relied on, and in what manner the event fact was done if true if true by whom, and in what manner was so good an act done
