McMinnville July 8th 1819

To his Excellency Joseph McMinn

The undersigned being informed that Thos J. Campbell formerly attorney general for this solicitorial district has resigned that appointment recommend James Rogers Esqr at this place as a very competent person to fill the appointment perform the duties of that office, Mr Rogers ability, experience & indefatigable attention to business will ensure the government to be represented to the satisfaction of all Concerned.

McMinnville July 9th 1819

Dear Sir

I wrote you a few days since on the subject of the appointment of a Solicitor pro tem in this District and recomme -end Mr Saml B. Moore. I have this Evening been informed by James Rodgers Esqr that he is also an applicant for the appointment It is unnecessary for me to say to you any thing about the characer of Mr. Rodgers with that both as a lawyer and as a man you are as acquainted as myself. It is due

To Mr Rodgers to say that I have been at several Courts at Warren County while he was Solicitor for the County, and I can freely say the he strictly attended to the business, and so far as came within my observation was generaly done correct

State of Tennessee Warren County

July Sessions 1819

We the undersigned Justices of the Court of quoram [sic] for the county aforesaid, have been acquainted with James Rogers Esquire and having Witnessed, his skill and integrity as a solicitor heretofore, have thought proper to appoint him solicitor Pro Tem in the Room of Thomas J. Campbell resigned, for the present Term of this Court, and do recommend him as a person well qualified to fill that office and hope that our appointment will be realized by the executive &C

We the undersigned Justices of the peace for Bledsoe County having been acquain =ted with James Rodgers Esquire attorney at Law for a number of years past, and be lieving him well qualified to Discharge the du =ties devolving on a Solicitor Genl do there fore recommend Mr Rodgers to the notice of your Excellency for that appointment to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Thos J. Campbell Esq solicitor Genl Resigned
