Monticello 12th Nov 1819 Mississippi Lawrence County

To his Excellency the Governor of the State of Tennessee I think it my duty to Inform your excellency that there is now in the Goal of my County a prisoner by the name [page damaged] Jonas Ellit Late of White CountyTennessee, who was apprehend, and Commited [sic] On the Oath of John Rutledge, also of white County Tennessee of who Chargeed [sic] the said Ellit of the Crime of murding [sic] John Bulland of the said white County in the State of Tennessee I think it my Duty to retain the said prisnor [sic] until demanded by the executive authority of your state &c

Monticello, June 27, 1821.

Dear Sir,

I rec.d yours of Feb. last with its inclosures, of $24; and that of a subsequent date. The money was disposed of with great difficulty and at fifty per cent below par. But, I was not certain, until lately, but that I should be obliged to return the notesHence it was, that I did not acknowledge the reception. Yours, respectfully
