Sparta July 2nd 1828.
Dear Sir
A petition has been presented to you, in favor of George Broyles of this county, for the purpose of getting him reprieved from 3 months imprisonment, to which he was sentenced by the Circuit Court for this CountyYou will find my name to the petition, as well as about six hundred other citizens of White County who are acquainted with Mr Broyles. Mr [Tierney?] informs me, that one objection you have to granting the Petition is, that a great many of the names appear to have been signed by the same person, consequently maybe forgeries- as to this fact I know nothing, further than what is contained in a letter from Majr Beadles to you, from which it appears that he was au= =thorised to sign about 100 names to it, and his statement is entitled to the utmost creditI have been acquainted with Mr Broyles for the last 8 years, and have always viewed him as an honest industrious Citizen, not in the habit of getting into quarrels- in fact, I am informed that this is the first ^serious difficulty that he ever had with any person.-
