State of Tennessee Washington County I do hereby certify that James Patterson Sheriff of Greene County is entitled to the sum of five Dollars and Twenty five Cents for his Travelling to and from the place of Comparing the Votes for an Elector to Vote for a President and Vice President of the United States and for one days attendance agreeable to an act of the Genl Assembly in the case provided

Knoxville 27th August 1803

Gentlemen,

you will herewith enclosed ^you will receive an appointment as Commissioners to revise examine, compare and correct transcripts of the books belonging to the Entry offices of lands for the Counties of Sullivan and Greene. The Act of Assembly authorizing the appointment will point out to you the duties to be performed. As it is necessary proper to preserve a Memorial that you have taken the necessary oath I would recommend that you take this oath and subscribe for each book separately for the separat for each book ^separately and have it subscribed and certified in each. It will then probably be of equal duration with the book.

You will please to apply at the Secretarys office for the ^books and papers from Sullivan. Mr Samuel Love will furnish you with the papers and Books of Hardins Office.

Your acceptance of the appointment will oblige Your Obedient Sevant
