your favor of 31st May is rec'd, agreeable to your proposal I herewith forward you annex'd/ The Hon. Newton Cannons rec'd for the two Swords made for Genls Jackson and Edmund P.Gaines — Any funds will answer my purpose that I can negotiate in New York, Philadelphia or Boston, Mass., yet a draft on New York or Bills of the Bank U. States wou'd be preferable. you observe it is better that this matter shou'd be settled by one transaction. to which I entirely agree, and shall therefore have it with you to arrange as my best suits your convenience and my interest

Sir, I respectfully ask to be appointed Commissioner of Tennessee resident in Massachussetts to take depositions and the acknowledgment of deeds &c to be used or recorded in Tennessee.
For evidence of qualifications I refer to my father Hon. James T. Austin late Atty Gen. of Massachussetts and to the facts that I am a Justice of the Peace for the County of Suffolk and hold the ap pointment of Commissioner from the States of [?], New Hampshire, New York Connecticut, North Carolina, Mississippi Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, & Ohio.
