Genl. William Carroll

Dear Sir As Govenor [sic] of the State of Tennessee, you will please to accept this my resignation of the Office of Surveyor of Sullivan County; Should you receive it before the rising of the Legislation; it would be well to hand it over so that a successor be elected during the present Session, if not, you will confer an Executive appoint -ment on some one— I would observe that Col. David Shaver would gladly receive the appointment, should you think proper to confer it upon him, he is well qualified to do the duties of the Office, and his appointment would meet the approbation of the people generally as I believe, he lives in Blountville.

Very respectfully Your Obt. Servt. Jas. D. Rhea
