To His Excellency, N. S. Brown Gov. of Tennessee,
Sir - I have been re= quested and urged by many of the citizens of Memphis to advise you ^of a recent atrocious ^murder that was committed here last night. A man named Mr. Steinents Steinments murdered a man named George White and immediately fled. The entire Community upon it as a most unprovoked and wanton murder and are desirous that every possible exer= tion shall be made to arrest the fugi= tive and bring him back to justice, and express a strong desire that you, as the Executive of the State, issue your Proc= lamation and offer a liberal reward for his apprehension and delivery to the Sheriff of the County. Mr. White sustained the char= acter of a reputable and unoffensive g citizen and was the second man murdered by Stements Steinments. It is hoped that your Excellency will be pleased to take ^such steps as the law authorizes in carrying out the wishes of a large number of your fellow citizens,

Description - Wm Steinets Steinments is about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 or 9 inches high, very heavy set, weighs about 200 220 to 240, has au= burn hair, hazle eyes, and a rather thin beard. His legs are very short and thick and his shoulders are very large and his neck also quite short and thick He is quite intelligent and writes a very good hand but is inclined to be dissi= pated.
