Dear Sir
I rec.d yours by this evenings mail, desiring that I would accept a protempore appointment of Judge, for the purpose of holding the Courts in the circuit above [us? viz?] - Your letter finds me in the midst of our County Courts, and under an engagement to appear for a citizen of Sumner County, charged with a criminal offence in the county of Allen Ky. next week. Mr Peytons however will go to Kentucky, I have therefore determined to make all else yield to your wishes, and to accept the appointment: This determination has resulted in part, from a pressing letter, from my excellent friend Jas Rucks Esq., who states that he has pledged himself for my acceptance-
