Seattle Wash Feby 1891 To the Honorable Board of Public works of the city of Seattle Washington The undersigned, your petitioners, respectfully call your attention to the wretched condition of the ally between second and third streets and bounded by Marion and Columbia Streets in this City: also this alley is used continually as a main road on which all mails for the lower sound and Alaska are transported also the heavy draying of two of the daily papers of this city is done through a portion of this said alley as is other considerable business done. Your petitioners respectfully request that this alley be graded and planked to conform to the grade of the aforementioned Columbia and Marion Streets and they will ever praying. A. M. 120 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sept 1/82 And now the Council proceeds to open the bids for Printing received by the Clerk pursuant to Notice duly published which bids are as follows, to wit: Chronicle Publishing Co Council Proceedings Gratis Notices etc Brener type per square 1st insertion $.75 Notices etc Brener type per square each subsequent insertion $.23 Herald Publishing Co Council Proceedings per square $.20 Other printing Brener type per square 1st insertion $.78 Other printing Brener type per square each subsequent insertion $.36 Post Intelligencer Publishing Co Council Proceedings Gratis Other printing Brener type per square 1st insertion $.85 Other printing Brener type per square each subsequent insertion $.45 And nowthe Council proceeds to open the bids received by the Clerk for furnishing lumber pursuant to notice duly published, which bids are as follows to wit: Stetson & Post $11.00 per M[1000 Board Feet] Ordered that the Contract for furnishing Stationary be & is hereby awarded to Pumphrey & Lowman upon their said bid. Ordered that the Contract for printing be & is hereby awarded to the Chronicle Publishing Co upon their said bid Ordered that the Bids for Job printing be & they are hereby referred to the finance Committe Ordered that the Contract for furnishing Lumber be & is hereby awarded to Stetson & Post upon their said bid. and now the Council proceeds to elect an additional Policeman. whereupon an election is held & R H Calligan receiving a majority of all of the votes of the members of the Council is duly declared elected to the Office of Policeman for the term provided by law.

On motion the bids were referred to the Finance Committee and the Committee reports that the bids of the Press Publishing Company is the lowest, and on motion the contract for doing the City printing from the date of the contract to the first day of September 1887 is awarded to the Press Publishing Company. Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Bellingham Bay Railway & Navigation Company accepting the provisions of Ordinance No 807. Granting the said Company right of way along the City Front was presented to the City Council & ordered filed. Preamble and resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Lake Shore & Eastern Railway Company accepting theprovisions of Ordinance No 806 granting said Company the right of way along the City Front was presented to the City counci and ordered filed.

282 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 26 1887 Lumber for the ensuing year are opened & Read Stetson & Post Mill Co $12.00 per M[thousand board feet] Seattle Lumber & Commercial Co $12.00 per M[thousand board feet] Commissioner directed to divide his purchases of Lumber between the two mills. City Printing Bids for doing the City Printing are received from the Post Intelligencer Publishing Co the Times Publishing Company and the Press Publishing Company. After examination and comparison of said bids it is ordered that the contract for doing the City Printing for the ensuing year be awarded to the Press Publishing Company and the City Atty ordered to draw the usual Contracts. Ordered that the Street Commissioner put a wooden box drain across Columbia Street on Seventh extended to and across Cherry Street Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the City Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance apporpriating moneyto Pay audited Bills" which is passed by the following vote In favor ofthe same Frink, Green, Moran, Niesz, Russell & Reitze, Against none. Equalization The Council proceeds with the revision and equalization of the Assessment Roll for 1887. Ordered that E Lobe & Co be reduced on personal property from $10,118 to $6000. Ordered that Treen Raymond and Turrell be reduced on personal property from $10,000 to $7000.
