65 COMMON COUNCILOF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Be it remembered that on this the 11th day of May 1882 the common council of the city of Seattle meets in it Council Chamber as a Board of Equalization pursuant to adjournment of May 10 1882 Present His Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Coucilman Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings and John Keenan Thereupon the Council proceeds with the equalization of the assessment roll of 1882, pending which Council adjourns until May 12th 1882 Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of May, 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of May 5th 1882 Present, His Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles McDonald Ordered that Andrew Castro be granted a lease to certain space on the Columbia Street incline for the consideration of $30.00 per year. Ordered that the chairman of the Cemetary Committee be instructed to advertise for bids for slashing City Cemetary And now come persons hereinafter named and make application for the business license after named from the dates and for the periods hereinafter specified and at the same itme & said applicants file their several bonds in accordance with the Ordinance relation thereto. After due examination said bonds are approved and the said applicants making due proof that they are persons of good moral character, it is therefore ordered that upon the completion with all the othere provisions of said Ordinance that Clerk be and he hereby is instructed to issue licenses to said applicants for the periods and purposes following to wit:

JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 10/84 Referred to Finance Com tee Licenses Granted Ordered that licenses be issued as follows towit : Shaw & Algar Retail for 3 months from Jan 9, 1884 Ordered that the matter approving certain Street Improvement Assessment Rolls be & is hereby laid over until Friday evening Jan 18, 1884 Ordered that Andrew Castro be authorized to retain Fish Stand foot of Columbia Street until May 1 84 by paying a monthly rental in advance of $10.00 Ordered that the claim allowed Anthony LeBrashe at last meeting be drawn out of City Fund. A report is rec'd from the Street Committee recommending the erection of a gas lamp corner 4th & Cherry Sts. Adopted. Claims Paid Fire Fund Gordan Hardware Co. Fire Bell for Columbia St Engine house $230.02 Consideration of Ordinances The council proceeds to consider an ordinanace entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay Audited bills," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit :In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The Judiciary Comtee submit an ordinance entitled "For vacating the alley through certain blocks"; thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following votes towit :In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke andWusthoff. Against adoption none. The Judiciary Committee submit an Ordinance entitled "To amend ordinance No. 499;" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit : In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. 424 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 25/84 Ordered that the vote by which Andrew Castro was authorized to occupy the foot of Columbia Street for a fish stand & entered on page 418 of this Journal be & the same is hereby reconsidered And now the Council proceeds to reconsider the petition of Andrew Castro to occupy the foot of Columbia Street for a Fish stand; thereupon said petition is denied. Ordered that the Chinese residents be & they are hereby permitted to fire fire crackers upon the condition that they pay to the Chief of Police in advance for the services of Special Policemen to be appointed by said Chief of Police to protect property and that the Mayor the requested to fix the limits for such using of fire crackers. And now the Clerk submits the statements of the cost of Madison street grade & Jackson Street condemnation proceedings. Refered to Finance Committee Claims Paid Washington Street Improvement S. G. The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilmen B. F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, Chas McDonald, B. L. Northrup, Otto Ranke & U. M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Committee on Sewers report an Ordinance entitled "To provide for the construction of a Sewer in a portion of Mill Street," thereupon the Council proceeds to consider said Ordinance, after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Rasin. Against adoption none. Ordered that a Warrant be drawn on the City Fund for Andrew Castro in the sum of $10.00 being the amount deposited by Andrew Castro for rent of fish stand.
