From the Attorney on the matter of Gas Light district & recommending the repeal of Ordinance No. 407. Adopted & Attorney instructed to submit the necessary ordinances. Committee's Reports Received From Finance approving the Treasurer's Semi-annual Report and the Treasurer's report on the Marion Street Sidewalk Tax Roll under Ordinance No. 364. Adopted. From the Committee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds recommending the letting of the contract for certain repairs to the Engine House on South 3rd Street to C.H. Metcalf on his bid upon giving a Bond with good & sufficient sureties in the sum of $500.00. Adopted and contract so awarded. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the letting of the contract for the Improvement of Madison Street under Ordinance No. 406 to Strong and Harkins upon giving a Bond with good & sufficient sureties in the sum of $15000.00. Adopted and contract so awarded. From Streets and Street Improvements rejecting the petition of Thos Pierce et al for grading 4th Streets from Union to Pine. Adopted and petition denied. From Fire and Water supply approving Fire Warden's report. Adopted. From Harbor and Wharves on Inclines. Ordered that the Comtee on Harbor & Wharves be & they are hereby authorized to make

Nov. 2 '83 In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. Ordered that the Attorney be & is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance to fix the salary of the Fire Warden at $150 a year

Miscellaneous Ordered that the Treasurer by & is hereby requested to pay all warrants in favor of street laborers out of any monies not otherwise appropri-ated. Be it remembered that on this the 18th day of January 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following officers are present, towit: Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B. F. Day, John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B. L. Northrup, Otto Ranke, U. M. Rasin and F. W. Wusthoff By reason of the absence from the City of His Honor the Mayor, H. G. Struve, Councilman U. M. Rasin is appointed to the position of Acting Mayor to serve during such absence. Petitions Rec'd From W. H. Brunk at al for establishing the grade on Lake Street. Referred to Street Committee From Chas Mascoline et al for the right to occupy foot of Columbia Street for a Fish Stand. Referred to Street Committee From Perry Clymer et al for opening Olive Street 10th to 16th. Referred to Street Committee From Geo. R. Smith et al for permission to occupy foot of Columbia Street for a Fish Stand. Referred to Street Committee From O. Jensen for permission to occupy 7th Street near King.
