Adopted & Attorney instructed to submit an ordinance therefor. Communications Rec'd From J G Kenyon notifying to Council to refrain from trespassing on Lot 2 Block C of A A Denny's Plat. Referred to the City Attorney. Licenses Granted The following licenses are ordered issued from the date & for the term, towit: Aug LeBallister & Co Retail for 3 months from June 22'83 Blanchard & Co Wholesale for 12 months from June 12'83 Blanchard & Co Retail for 12 months from June 12'83 Ang Mehlhorn 1 pigeon hole table 6 months from June 12'83 Special Orders of the Day Ordered that the Clerk be & he is hereby instructed to give 10 days public notice as required by law that a general election for all City Officers of the City of Seattle will be held on Monday July 9, 1883 The Officers to be elected are one Mayor, one Marshall, two Councilmen for First Ward, Three Councilmen for the Second Ward and two Councilmen for the Third Ward. The places hereby designated for holding said election and the Officers hereby appointed to conduct the same are as follows, to wit: First Ward Election to be held at the Office of T H Cann Esq a Justice of the Peace in Washington Street Inspector H S Alger, Judges C P Farrar & James Monogue. 762 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 11 1886 Be it remembered that on this the eleventh day of March A D 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in the Council chamber pursuant to adjournment the following officers being present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G WYoung against none Minutes of previous meeting are read and approved Petitions Petitions of J G Kenyon et al praying for the removal of obstructions and opening of wharf at foot of Madison Street read and referred to Committee on Harbor & Wharves Petition of G J Armstrong for permission to conduct a laundry with certificate from Chief of Fire Dept only, is read and referred to Committee on Sewers. Petition of F H Osgood praying that Sec 1 of Ordinance No 611 and Sec 5 of Ordinance No 569 be amended and submitting an ordinance to that effect is read and laid on the table. Petition of F D DeWolf praying that the alley in Block X of Bell's 4th Addition be vacated is read and on otion the petition is granted Report of Dr J S M Smart Health Officer calling attention to certiain bodies fo stagnant water as dangerous to the public health read and referred to committee on Sewers. Report of Fire and Water Committee on matter ofFire patrol recommending that the men be allowed pay at the rate of $2.50 per day read and on motion adopted.

The following officers are present Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen J Furth, J M Frink, Jos Green, T D Hinckley, R Russell, T W Lake, and C F Reitze. Whereupon the following porceedings are had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting were read & approved. Petition etc. Petition of James M Colman for permission to enlarge wooden building on North side of Columbia Street about 120 feet west of Front Street. Granted. Petition of Jos S Anderson et al for a box drain onFifth Street between James and JEfferson Streets referred to the Street Committee. Petition of A W Wineepaw for a sewer on Columbia Street from alley between Tenth & Eleventh Sts to alley between Ninth and Tenth Streets. Referred to CommitteeonSewers & Drainage. Petitionof J G Kenyon for permission to construct a wooden addititon 30x35 feet in size on the North side of the building known as the Kenyon Block on the west side of Front Street Referred to Street Committee Petition of H L Yesler for a sewer in alley in Block 4

200 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jun 3 1887 Communication from Park Commissioner's calling the attention of the Council to the condition of the Park and asking that steps be taken to prevent depredation of animals therein. Referred to Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds with power to act. Monthly Reports recieved From City Atty for Month of May read & ordered filed From Chief of Police for Month of May read & ordered filed From Custodian of Powder House for Month of May read & ordered filed From Justice Jones for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Justice Soderberg for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Jailor for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Street Commr Referred to Com on Streets and returned approved and ordered filed. Committee Reports Received From Street Committee on petition Citizens of Houghton in regard to the road to LAke Washington recommending that the petition be laid onthe table. The Committee state that they will repair this & other roads leading into the City as soon as practicable. Adopted. Fourth Street Grade From same Committee on petition of C C Otis et al to grade Fourth Street fromBell Street to Union Street and build sidewalks on bothsides of said street recommending that the same be granted. Adopted and the City surveyor directed to survey said street and establish the grade and that an assessment district be created in accordance therewith. From same Committee rejecting petition of J G Kenyon for permission to erect a wooden building adjoining the Kenyon Block on Front St adopted.
