Iron Safe. for use of the Secretary _

The Secretary reported the purchase of a large safe by a committee of one, J.J. Dixwell, for the preservation of his records. It is in his office, at 46 Washington St, The safe was stated to be one of Messrs Edwards & Holman's make - styled Improved Salamander Safe. Mr Curtis suggested doubts of its sufficiency to withstand fire, and the subject was recommitted to the President and Secretary for examination on this front.

S. Newall's Claim.

A letter from Mr Samuel Newell was read, asking the gift of a lot in the Cemetery, in consideration of his long continued services in making up the accounts at the Cemetery. Doubts were expressed, and the whole matter was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs Crockett & Little with full powers.

E.W. Williams Legacy. Petition from her Executor.

A petition from D. Watson Jr. Executor of Elizabeth Watson Williams' last will, was presented. It was accompanied by affidavits and other papers showing that the testatrix had determined to reduce a legacy in her will, to this Corporation from $2000 to $1000. to secure the perpetual repair of her lot number 1697, on Spruce Avenue. The sum of $2000. had formerly been fixed by the trustees, at her own request, for another lot, no. 233 -- on Walnut Avenue. (see p.160.1 of these records,) and she had transferred the be-

Trustees. .

Pursuant to notices issued in the usual manner the regular monthly meeting of the Trustees was held at Mr C.P. Curtis office, on Present Messrs Bigelow, Crockett, Curtis, Parker and Read.

The record of the last meeting was read & approved.

E.W. Williams Legacy.

The committee on the petition of D. Watson Jr. Executor of the will of the late Elizabeth W. Williams (see p.225). reported the following preamble and votes as proper to be adopted under the circumstances.

Whereas it has been made to appear to this Board that Mrs Elizabeth W Williams at the time of her death was about to reduce a legacy in her will to this Corporation, from two thousand to one thousand dollars, wishing this Corportion in consideration of the latter sum to accept a devise of her lot, number 1697 on Spruce Avenue, and contract to keep the same in perpetual repair in its present condition as mentioned in her will: and whereas in the opinion of this board the sum of one thousand dollars is amply sufficient for the purposes there named.

Voted. That upon receiving notice of a valid devise of lot numbered 1697, by which the title to the same shall revest in this corporation, and upon the receipt at the same time of the sum of one thousand dol lars from the Executor of Mistress Elizabeth W. Williams last will and testament this Corporation will accept in said devise and the bequest of one thousand dollars and from and after that time keep the said lot in good repair in its present condition forever: provided

Committee on Statuary.

Messrs Read and Curtis were appointed to complete the said Committee.

Chapel Rebuilding of & Extension.

Voted. That the building Committee be authorized to extend the length of the Chapel as they shall see fit.

At the special ____ meeting of the Trustees holden on , there were present Messrs Bigelow, Parker, Curtis, Tisdale, Gould and Kuhn.

E.W. Williams Legacy.

Voted. That in as much as D. Watson for Executor of the last will of the late Elizabeth W. Williams has failed to comply with the provisions and conditions of the votes in relation to a certain legacy in said will passed , that the authority there given to the Secretary and Treasurer be and the same is here by revoked [for vote see p. 228.]

Secretary to collect Whole amount.

Voted. That the Secretary be instructed to collect from the said Executor the full amount of the legacy with interest.

Kirkland monument. repair of.

The Treasurer reported that the fund for the repair of the monument to President Kirkland, which was originally only $72 had lain in his hands in interest until it amounted to $113. which with $13 received for the same purpose from and through C.P. Curtis Esqr. now amounted to $126 Thereupon Voted. That the Treasurer place the said sum of $126 to the credit of lot no ___, in the trust fund for care of lots.

Accounts of the Trust Funds.

On suggestion from various individuals the subject of the trust funds for the care of lots, and the manner of keeping the accounts of the same, was referred to the Treasurer and Mr Parker
