as at the Grant Churchill or Sanford – I was told by young Mrs Thornton that her husband would not allow her to stay there alone –

My Aunt Rebecca & her daughter Kate (Mrs Vredenburgh) wrote how sorry they would be not to see you if [underlined] they don't before they go east. Kate said they arrived at Camp Kearny just [underlined] in time for the parade – & had to leave immediately [underlined] afterwards – you can guess that could be so when the distance was about 300 miles.

Les was too sick & may when better to read Dicks last letters so I have not yet sent them to you – You might wire us if [underlined] you get a Commission if [underlined] you like. It is not really necessary of course.
