There are several hundred midshipmen unsatisfactory for the term in different subjects and with a rough guess I should say that at least 200 will bilge – "unsat" in two or more subjects. We all feel as tho we had just finished a week of stoking.

Well that isn't very interesting for you but there isn't much more to say. I met Mrs Underwood – formerly Miss Ramsey – and she always has a lot to say about you, what kind of a boy Ed is and what he used to do but I'll tell you no more. I was mighty glad to hear from Helen Funke the other day. Mrs. Underwood knows her very well, in fact that is how I happened to meet Mrs. Underwood.

I seem to have struck a lot of your friends for Geo. Martin, a first-classman, sits next to me in the mess-hall and he knows Helen and yourself.
