Not long ago we had a very delightful visit from your Father and Mother. They came in the evening and it was very [underlined] nice. After they left, Mother told Mildred that she should have gone to bed promptly at nine o'clock instead of staying up, whereupon she replied, "Oh, Mother, but Mister Bates is so [double underlined] fascinating, I simply couldn't resist him." I don't bame Mildred because he was so full of "beans" that evening.

How do you like France? It must be very different from America. Have you been or are you actually fighting yet?

It certainly looks as if peace would come about very soon, judging from the way things are going over there.

To-day the papers are just full of this peace talk, and of the Kaiser, having accepted America's peace terms. But the general feeling seems to be against that, as the Kaiser is not [triple underlined] to be trusted. I hope that
