To the Hon. Mayor and Common Council of the City of Seattle

I beg leave to refer to your honorable body the within enclosed letter of the secy of of the San Diego Board of Fire Commissioners in regard to purchasing our Preston Hook and Ladder Truck. I would advise that the truck be sold there for its cost price to us, as the value of the wooden ladders burned up by the fire of June 6th and I would advise the purchase of a Stayes hook and ladder truck much lighter than our own Preston Truck which San Diego wishes to buy. Instead. The Stayes Truck has a wooden extension ladder and is much lighter in proportion to its size than the Preston Truck and would be a more suitable machine for a city of such steep grade as Seattle has. Very respectfully submitted
