January 29th

am Fresh NE wind & fine Wr [weather] at 4 the breeze gradu- ally increasing & drawing to NWd [NWestward] & Bar [Barometer] commenced to fall rapidly. at 7 M [Main] Top gallt [gallant] sls [sails] at 8. In 2nd reefs of the Topsails & stowed Jib & Mainsail split the Foresail & furled it at 10 Increased to a hard gale at NW In close reefs of the Topsls [Topsails] at 11 Furled Fore & Mizen [Mizzen] Topsails. Noon Heavy NW gale & high sea. [Sprung?] the Main Trysail Gaff stowed the sail
