657 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Committee Reports The Comtee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds make the following report on the Claim of James McNaught for damages on a/c of Main Street Grade. Seattle W T July 3rd 1885 "To the Hon Mayor & Common Council of Seattle Your judiciary Committee have investigated the within claim and report the same back with the recommendation that the same be allowed in the sum of Eight Hundred and Fifty one & 62/100 Dollars in Condition that Mr McNaught will pay the full amount of principle and interest of all special assessments for street improvements upon property owned by him at date of the assessments. Walter Graham Wm A Harrington Alfred Snyder Ordered that said report be & is hereby adopted From Gas Committee recommending a gas lamp for the corner of Spring & 3rd Street. 688 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 18 1885 From Committee on Fire and Water recommending that Mme Lachenal be granted permission to conduct a Laundry at the foot of Commercial St Report adopted From Committee on Fire & Waater recommending First: That 7 fire plugs be put in at Belltown at points to be selected by the Chiefof the fire Department and the Committee on Fire and Water. Second: that after that portion of the City is supplied with water one of the new Hose carts with apparatus be turned over to the Engine Co No 4 Third: That the purchase of a New Fire Engine for Engine Co. No 4 and also the Truck for Seattle No 1 should be deferred for the present. Fourth: That the Engine house of Engine Co No 3 be made comfortable by battening the sides, ceiling and lining the inside and the purchase of a stove; and suitable lamps be supplied them Fifth: that the establishing of a Telephone system for our fire department is not necessary at present as our City is not large, enough to require such a system nor our finances in such a condition as to justify such expense. Sixth: That we have contacted the Chief Engineer regarding Engine No 1 and requested him to examine same and report to your Hon Body. Report Adopted. 726 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 13 1885 Committee Reports From Committee of Fire & Water to whom was referred that question of a water supply for North Seattle reporting that the Spring Hill Water Company would extend their pipes to Belltown provided the city would authorize the placing of seven (7) plugs on their line between Pike Street and Bell's Hotel and three (3) plugs between Columbia Street and Pike Street, and recommending that the City Attorney enter into a contract with the said water co. for supplying North Seattle with Water. adopted From Same Committee returning the report of the Chief of teh Fire Deptartment and recommending that the Laundry on Mill St conducted by Hop Sing be declared a nuisance and abated. Adopted and the Chief of Police directed to abate the nuisance. On motion the matter of properly marking the site of the hulk of the Steamer Mississippi is referred to the Com on Harbor & Wharves,
