NOVEMBER 1944

9 Thur Very cold day. Had very boring chemistry lessons; and notes for 3 lessons on of biology Got very fed up . Had bible class in evening. Bill Taffy Sue & Betty came, & Tex who has been posted, came in for about later in the evening.

10 Fri Very cold day. Sharp frost. Did not go to school as had a bad cold. Helped Mummy all the morning. Cooked the dinner. Did a little homework in afternoon & evening. Bill came in until seven. Went to bed very early.

11 Sat - Martinmas (Scottish Quarter Day) Half-Quarter Day. Remembrance Day Naval Battle of Taranto, 1940 s.r. 7.10, s.s. 4.18 Cold day. Helped Mummy most of the morning. Peeled all the veges. Had a bath in afternoon & started to write a history essay. Continued to write essay in evening. Bill & Taffy came in late in the evening.

This is undoubtedly the best time for planting fruit trees and Roses. The plants then become established before the severe weather sets in and do not suffer nearly so much from drought the following summer as do those planted later.

NOVEMBER 1944

12 Sun - 23rd after Trinity Very dull cold day. Went to Sunday School in morning & taught primary. Went to S. School again in afternoon. [...]evening because of [?] [...][...]they all came in to supper.

13 Mon Very cold day. Did notes in [...] had quite a nice french [...] bad for once. [...] in free lessons. [...] family went to the pictures [...] in. I stayed at home [with] Billy we talked.

14 Tues Denys Dave & Colin came back from leave. Very cold day. Chemistry lessons very boring. Had some terrible french homework in evening. Bill went to a dance on camp. Denys Dave & Colin came in evening and had supper here.

15 Wed - New Moon, 10.29 p.m. Didn't get much homework done in free lessons. Went out in dinner hour. History not bad. Went to bible class in evening. Bill Betty Colin Dave Ted Denys and Taffy came. Very cold day.

NOVEMBER 1944

16 Thur Very cold again. Had nice current events lessons. Chemistry lessons were pretty grim but biology not too bad. Did homework in evening. Bill came to tea. Colin Harry & Taffy all popped in during evening and Ted & Denys came to supper.

Bill's day off 17 Fri Did not got to school. Cold much worse. It rained all day. Helped Mummy all the morning. Cleaned my bedroom. Bill came in after dinner. Denys came in afternoon and had bath. Did some H.W. in evening. Bill Ted, Dave Colin & Denys came to supper.

18 Sat - s.r. 7.23, s.s. 4.7 Mild day but rained [...] the time. Went to Sutton and did all the errands in morning. Bill came in at dinner time but no one came in in evening except Denys for a few minutes. Did homework in evening.

Take advantage of favourable weather to prune Apples and Pears. Collect and burn all prunings, storing the ash in a dry place until required. Protect trained Fig trees growing on walls by lightly thatching them with spruce boughs or similar material.
