the Eastward saw several whales all Bound
to the Westward struck 2 and the irons drawed
and lost them Lat by obs 40 – 15 Long 39 – 05

Wednesday January 15th 1823
First part of these 24 hours Light winds from E N East
middle part fresh winds and rain at S S East.
Latter part fresh winds and rugged from the
Southward saw 2 whales and chaised them but could
not strike spoke the ship Indus of Nantucket 900 Blls

Thursday January 16th ‘ 1823
All these 24 hours fresh Breeses and rugged from the south
and Westward stear from N W to N East saw 2 whales and
chaised But could not ketch them spoke the Pacifick
