First and middle part fresh gales at S S West
at 5 PM tack to the Westward Latter part Light
winds and calm from the Southward head in to the
Westward saw no whales one ship in sight caught
4 Black fish so ends this day of our Lord
Lat by obs 39 – 48 Long by 44 - - 20

Monday January 20th 1823

to S West on the wind in co with the Pacific

weather from the Westward head from N West
to S West at 12 PM saw one whale put off
struck and killed and cut him in the Pacific in sight
got a whale Lat by D R 40 - - 35 Long 42 - - 40

Wednesday January 22 “
All these 24 hours Light winds and fine weather
at N N West employed in tying and killed 2 whales
cut one in and cabled the other saw a plenty
of whales and 2 ships in co with the Pacific a tying
Lat by 40 – 55 Long 42 50
