from the Eastward at 7 AM took in top galant sails

and shanter and move ship to S S East at 8 hou
the fore and misen top sails and main sail
sint down the fore top galant yard and tyed
to clost reef the main top sail could not clued him
up tried to hand it split him at 11 the starbord
quarter boat roded under and files broke
in two and Lost him Lat by D R 40 – 10 Long 72 -

Monday March 31st “ 1823
First part a very severe gale rain and hail
squals at 2 PM the fore sail tore off at the reef after
at the twinkling of an eye at 4 the weather moderate
and cleans of the hoculs all around the compas
set the fore top mast stay sail and main top sail
at 8 the wind blows hard at N East head S East
rain and hail throughout the night the hauls to the
Northward at 6 AM blow the main top sail to
pieces at 8 hand what is Left and the ropes
and with hevey gales and rain and hail and snow
the rigging glased with ice Lat by DR 9 Long 7

Tuesday April 1st “ 1823
First part fresh gales and rain and hail
from the N N West head N East middle and
Latter part the clear at N West and Light wind
at 4 unbent the main sail and bent it from
a fore sail at 10 set the fore and misen top sail
Jib and spanker at 8 AM unbent the main
top sail and bent another stear on the wind
to the N N East employed in mending the main
top sail Lat by obs 39 – 24 Long i don’t know Lost
