Wednesday July 16th All of this 24 hours strong gales from the NNW. Steer SE by E. At Meridian found whales. Lowered the lee boat and chaced [CHASED] but could not strike. Thursday July 17th Comes in with moderate weather. Wind from the Northward. Saw several whales. Took one and got a boat truly stove[D]. Saw two ships. So ends this day.
