Wednesday July 16th All of this 24 hours strong gales from the NNW. Steer SE by E. At Meridian found whales. Lowered the lee boat and chaced [CHASED] but could not strike. The weather being verry [VERY] bad. Saw five or 6 whales this day. So ends. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 50=20" Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro [CHRONOMETER] 163°=35" East

Thursday July 17th Comes in with moderate weather. Wind from the Northward. Saw several whales. Took one and got a boat truly stove[D]. Saw two ships. So ends this day. Friday July 18th Light breezes from the S & E. Steer by the wind, tacking ocasionally for spouts which proved to be Humpers. Saw two ships steering West. Employed at boiling. So ends the day. At Meridian found whales. Lowered the lee boat and chaced [CHASED] but could not strike. The weather being verry [VERY] bad. Saw five or 6 whales this day. So ends. Latt [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 50=31" N Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro [CHRONOMETER] 163°=14"

Saturday July 19th Light airs from the S & E and foggy at times. Saw a ship to the Northward. Employed at boiling. Latt [LATITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 50°=25" N Long [LONGITUDE] by DR [DEAD RECKONING] 163°=20"

Sunday July 20th This day we have light breezes from the S & W. Steer by the wind to the S & E. Employed at stowing down. So ends. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 50 15 Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro [CHRONOMETER] 163°.52" E
