Friday Aug. 15th Commences with fogg [FOG]. At 8 AM clears with a fresh breeze from South. Steer West. Steer West for the land. Saw four or five ships. At 3 PM coming on thick weather and rain. Wear ship and steer by the wind NE by E. At 6 PM take in sail heading ENE with double reefed main top sail and fore sail. Saturday August 16th All of this 24 hours strong gales from the S & E. At 6 AM make some sail and steer North untill [UNTIL] 12 Mer [MERIDIAN] with a thick fogg [FOG]. Then take in sail and head off ENE. Saw one sail. Carry and double reefed top sail. Latt [LATITUDE] [Obs CROSSED OUT] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 53°=50" N Long [LONGITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 162°=12" East
